As it stood in 1500
The shape it held in its prime.
Low, compact stone castle of rough grey rubble with crenellated parapets and short rectangular towers; two slim conical tourelles flank the main entrance through a pierced wall. Pitched slate roofs sit behind the battlements and simple chimneys rise from the ridgeline. Small mullioned windows puncture thick walls. The entrance gives onto a paved drive and small inner court, with densely wooded grounds and orchard extending behind the buildings. At its prime the fabric is complete and well maintained.
