Alcazaba y Murallas del Cerro de San Cristóbal

The Alcazaba of Almería is a large fortified citadel occupying a rocky hill above the city of Almería, Spain. It consists of multiple concentric walled enclosures with towers, internal courtyards, water cisterns and domestic structures that served as the seat of local government and garrison during the medieval period.

The shape it held in its prime.

A terraced hilltop fortress of warm ochre stone with three visible concentric curtain walls stepping up the rocky slope; crenellated parapets and both cylindrical and rectangular towers punctuate the lines. The lower wall has broad, squared buttresses; higher enclosures are set around inner courtyards shaded by trees and dotted with domestic buildings. A bell-tower-like outline rises above the central enclosure. The complex sits against a backdrop of arid folded hills.
