Loarre Castle
Loarre Castle is a Romanesque castle-abbey complex on a rocky outcrop near the town of Loarre in Huesca province, Aragon, Spain. Built mainly between the 11th and 13th centuries, it combines a fortified keep, curtain walls with round towers and a Romanesque chapel. The site is one of the oldest castles in Spain and today stands preserved after 20th-century restorations.

The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a limestone crag, the complex is a compact cluster of ochre-grey stone buildings: a tall square keep set slightly forward, a Romanesque church with a semicircular eastern apse, and successive curtain walls punctuated by thick cylindrical towers. The outer wall runs along the ridge with regularly spaced round towers and crenellations; a worn dirt approach winds up the slope past low scrub and exposed rock toward the gate and inner ward.
