New Brighton Tower

New Brighton Tower was a 567-foot (173 m) steel-lattice observation tower in New Brighton, Wallasey, England, set above an octagonal red-brick entertainment building. The base building contained a large ballroom, theatre, menagerie and other amusements, and the surrounding grounds included formal gardens, a boating lake, a permanent funfair and an athletics/stadium complex.

A slender, tapering steel-lattice observation tower rises from the centre of an octagonal, multi-storey red Ruabon-brick building with terracotta and stone dressings. The brick base has arched windows, steeply pitched pavilions capped by copper-domed turrets and small cupolas. The tower’s open-work steel legs form a hyperboloid lattice shaft leading to a multi-level octagonal observation gallery near the top. Grounds around the building include fenced forecourts, formal gardens, a boating lake and clustered fairground rides.
