Grande Chartreuse
The Grande Chartreuse is the mother-house and head monastery of the Carthusian order, located in a narrow wooded valley of the Chartreuse Mountains north of Grenoble, France. The complex is a walled monastic enclosure of clustered stone buildings and steep slate roofs centred on an church, chapter-house and ordered cells; visitors are not admitted to the monastery itself and a separate museum (the Correrie) interprets the site.

The ensemble reads as an ordered, enclosed village in good repair.
