Pont Neuf

The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, spanning the western tip of the Île de la Cité with two separate arms of five and seven arches. It is a broad stone bridge with pedestrian sidewalks, projecting semicircular bastions, sculpted mascarons along its cornices and the bronze equestrian statue of Henry IV on the island terre-plein.

A long masonry bridge of pale cream limestone crossing the Seine in two arms (five arches on the short arm, seven on the long), with a wide paved carriageway and raised stone sidewalks protected by low balustrades. Regular semicircular bastions project over the water above each pier; a high stone pedestal bears a bronze equestrian statue on the island terre-plein. Rows of carved stone mascarons run beneath the cornices; the bridge sits between stone quais and the treed tip of the Île de la Cité.
