Segesta
Segesta is an ancient Elymian city on Monte Barbaro in north-western Sicily, notable for a well-preserved peripteral Doric temple and a Hellenistic theatre. The archaeological park preserves remains from the Archaic through the medieval periods including an agora, sanctuaries and later reuses.

A hilltop peripteral Doric temple of local pale limestone stands on a three-step crepidoma with a hexastyle façade (six by fourteen columns). The squat, unfluted columns (about 10 m tall) support a plain entablature and triangular pediment; many ashlar blocks retain lifting bosses and the building was never roofed. Nearby, a semicircular stone theatre with radial rows of cut seating (cavea) is set into the slope and looks out over a wide valley toward the Gulf of Castellammare.
