SMS Hindenburg

SMS Hindenburg was a German Imperial Navy Derfflinger-class battlecruiser completed in 1917. She carried eight 30.5 cm (12 in) guns in four twin turrets, a tall tripod foremast and a pole aft mast, and was interned at Scapa Flow in 1918 before being scuttled and later broken up.

A long, low-profile steel battlecruiser about 212–213 m long with a flared bow and low freeboard; riveted grey armor plates run along the hull punctuated by rows of casemate gun ports. Four twin main-gun turrets (fore and aft in superfiring pairs) present rounded armored faces and long 12-inch barrels. A tall tripod mast stands forward of the bridge and a single pole mast aft; two short funnels sit amidships and an aft derrick handles seaplanes, with harbour water reflecting the hull.
