What Burgos Cathedral looked like in its prime.

Massive three‑tiered western façade in warm Hontoria limestone, with three pointed portals beneath a large six‑pointed‑star rosette; flanked by twin three‑storey towers pierced by mullioned openings and topped in the 15th century by filigree, octagonal openwork spires. A pinnacled octagonal cimborrio (lantern) rises at the transept crossing. Buttresses, flying pinnacles and rows of blind arcades and statuary enliven the vertical Gothic silhouette; carved portal tympana and traceried stained glass punctuate the stonework.
