Casa Vicens

Casa Vicens is a three-storey modernist house in Barcelona by Antoni Gaudí, built 1883–1885 in an orientalist/Neo-Mudéjar idiom. The house combines masonry panels with extensive polychrome ceramic tiling, wrought-iron balconies and a small roof pavilion; the property originally included a garden with fountains and a monumental waterfall.

A rectilinear three-storey villa with alternating rough stone masonry panels and horizontal bands of green-and-white checkerboard ceramic tiles, vertical red-brick mullions and arched window openings; ornate wrought-iron balconies with palm-leaf motifs project from the first floor. Polychrome tile friezes with yellow flower motifs run between floors. A small octagonal turret/templet rises at the corner and a roof terrace with chimneys and a pavilion crowns the block. The street façade sits close to the pavement with an iron palmetto gate.
