Maidan Nezalezhnosti
Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) is the central public square of Kyiv, located on Khreshchatyk Street. The square is dominated by the tall Independence Monument and punctuated by glass domes that roof the underground Globus shopping mall; it is surrounded by large administrative and hotel buildings and pierced by several radiating streets.

A broad, multi-level paved plaza split by Khreshchatyk boulevard, centred on a tall fluted white victory column topped by a gilded female figure. Surrounding the column are low stone terraces, pools and bronze sculptural elements. Near the square’s centre sit one or more circular glass-and-steel domes (the Globus rotundas) sheltering an underground mall. The square is flanked by mid- to large-scale stone and concrete civic blocks and a high-rise hotel; overall the site reads as a large urban ceremonial plaza in good repair.
