Rothschildschloss
Rothschild Castle (Schloss Rothschild or Schloss Waidhofen) is a medieval castle in Waidhofen an der Ybbs that was significantly rebuilt in a neo‑Gothic style for Albert von Rothschild in the late 19th century. Originally founded in the 13th century as the seat of Freising bailiffs, it was remodelled 1881–1890 and later adapted for civic uses; today it is owned by the town and houses a local history museum and cultural institutions.

The shape it held in its prime.
Massive grey rubble‑stone walls form a compact complex with a tall square keep crowned by crenellations, a long main residential wing with a steep red‑brown tiled roof and regular dormer windows, and a smaller eastern tower group with narrow conical spires clad in dark slate. The courtyard side features an arcaded gallery (Court Arcades) set into the stone facade. Built into a small town slope, the castle presents a fortified silhouette of stone and tiled roofs, fully roofed and intact in its Rothschild neo‑Gothic form.
