Kilcrea Castle
Kilcrea Castle is a 15th-century Irish tower house with its enclosing bawn, located west of Cork City beside the River Bride. It was completed by Cormac Laidir MacCarthy and stands close to Kilcrea Friary. The structure today survives as a ruin on private farmland, largely hidden by trees.

A rectangular, five-storey tower house occupies the western side of the site, linked on the east to a surrounding bawn wall that encloses a courtyard; a three-storey tower anchors the bawn's southeast corner. In its prime the castle faced north toward the River Bride, set in marshy low ground and surrounded by open fields. The buildings are of weathered rubble stone with narrow vertical window slits; the moat lies to the north between castle and river.

Kilcrea Castle is a 15th-century tower house and bawn beside the River Bride, west of Cork City. It was completed by 1465 by Cormac Laidir MacCarthy, 9th Lord of Muskerry, who also founded the neighbouring Kilcrea Friary — the castle raised in a marshy area over an old fort possibly dating to the Bronze Age.
Castle and friary have gone separate ways. The friary is in state ownership, maintained by the National Monuments Service of Ireland, while the castle ruins stand on privately owned land — currently a working cattle farm — largely hidden by trees.
