A rectangular three-storey stone tower house of grey masonry set within a circular earthen ringfort; two small corner turrets project from the upper corners of the rectangular block. The tower shows narrow slit windows and a ground-level entrance on the southwest face. Surrounding the tower is a broad grass-covered ditch (original ringfort defences) and low earth banks; local hills and scattered farmhouses lie beyond the enclosure.

Rahinnane Castle is a tower house of the 15th or 16th century raised within a far older ringfort on the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry — the ancient earthwork retains a nine-metre-deep ditch, an entrance in the south-west and a souterrain in the south-east. Local tradition once claimed this piece of land was the last in Ireland held by the Vikings, so easily was it defended — a legend, but one that speaks to the site's strength.
The rectangular tower rose three storeys, with two corner turrets still visible. More than half the outer walls remain, and inside are traces of a mural stairway, vaulting and a blind arcade. The ruin is a National Monument.
