Riga Castle
Riga Castle is a fortified residence on the left bank of the River Daugava in Riga, founded in 1330 and repeatedly rebuilt and enlarged from the late medieval period through the 19th century. By the 20th century it served as the seat of national government and housed museums; since 1922 it has been the residence of the President of Latvia. The complex combines medieval towers and a multi-wing administrative palace facing the river.

The shape it held in its prime.
A multi-wing masonry castle sited on the left bank of the Daugava, laid out around a rectangular enclosed courtyard with buildings on all sides. Four corner towers remain from the plan, two of them round after the late-15th/early-16th rebuilding and two rectangular; the roofline is irregular due to 17th–19th-century annexes. The façades rise several storeys with attic roofs and visible chimneys; the riverfront elevation and an entrance court face the embankment.
