Castle Tioram
Castle Tioram is a medieval ruined castle standing on the tidal island Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, western Scotland. Historically the seat of Clann Raghnaill (Clanranald), it has been unoccupied since the early 18th century and is a scheduled monument. The island is reached at low tide by a causeway but interior access is restricted today because of unstable masonry.

A compact, curtain‑walled stronghold of grey, roughly coursed local stone perched on a low rocky, grassy tidal island. The silhouette is a near‑rectangular block with stout, slightly rounded corner massing, a continuous crenellated parapet broken by several short rectangular tower/stair projections, and narrow vertical slit windows. The castle rises directly from exposed rock and grass, with the loch and heathered hills behind; in its prime the walls and battlements were complete and continuous.

Castle Tioram sits on the tidal island of Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, hidden from the sea yet controlling access to Loch Shiel. Some accounts place it among Somerled's castles of the 12th century, though others date it to the 13th or 14th; it appears to have begun as a principal stronghold of Clann Ruaidhrí, and early modern tradition preserved in the 17th-century Sleat History credits its building to Áine Nic Ruaidhrí, granddaughter of Ailéan mac Ruaidhrí.
For centuries the castle served as the seat of Áine's Clann Raghnaill descendants — the Clanranald branch of Clan Donald. Government forces seized it around 1692 after the chief, Allan Macdonald of Clanranald, joined the exiled court of James VII and II in France despite having sworn allegiance to William and Mary. Unoccupied since the early 18th century and known locally as Dorlin Castle, it is now a scheduled monument, its interior closed because of unstable masonry.
