Culzean Castle
Culzean Castle is a late 18th-century L-plan clifftop country house rebuilt by Robert Adam for the Earl of Cassillis, set above the Firth of Clyde in South Ayrshire. The composition centres on a large drum tower with a circular saloon, a grand oval staircase and a suite of formal apartments, surrounded by a walled garden and estate parkland now managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

The shape it held in its prime.
A late 18th-century L-plan castellated house of warm-brown ashlar with a prominent circular drum tower on the seaward side, broad rectangular main block and tall chimneys. The parapets are crenellated and punctuated by short angle towers; rows of tall sash windows line the façades. The castle sits on a rocky clifftop above the Firth of Clyde with terraces, a high stone curtain wall and formal lawns and a walled garden at the fore.
