Huntingtower Castle

Huntingtower Castle (formerly Ruthven Castle) is a twin-towered Scottish tower house near Perth, built from at least the 14th century with substantial additions in the 15th–17th centuries. It preserves early 16th-century painted decoration and later alterations that joined the two towers into the form seen today. The site is managed by Historic Scotland and is open to visitors.

The shape it held in its prime.

A compact pair of adjacent stone tower blocks facing a wide mown lawn: the original Eastern Tower is a free‑standing three-storey gatehouse with a garret under a steep slate roof, while the Western Tower is L-shaped and set directly beside it. Narrow slit and small rectangular windows puncture the ashlar-and-rubble grey stone; the towers are linked beneath the battlements by a low wooden bridge (originally spanning a ~3 m gap). A straight external stone stair climbs to a first-floor entrance on the western side.
