Branik Castle
Branik Castle, also called Rihemberk Castle, is a 13th-century hilltop castle above the village of Branik in southwestern Slovenia. It is centred on a tall 13th-century cylindrical keep and was later expanded into a Baroque residential complex with Renaissance defensive walls and corner turrets; it was heavily damaged in 1944 and has been gradually restored since the 1980s. The site is a protected cultural monument of national importance.

The shape it held in its prime.
A prominent, tall cylindrical 13th-century stone keep with a crenellated parapet rises at the complex centre; around it cluster multi-storey Baroque residential wings with red terracotta hip roofs. Thick pale-grey limestone curtain walls with romantic crenellations and several round 16th-century corner turrets enclose a compact compound set on a wooded hillside above the Vipava Valley. A walled terraced garden occupies the south slope below the main entrance gate.
