Brompton Oratory

The Brompton Oratory (Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) is a large Neo‑Baroque Catholic parish church in South Kensington, London, served by the Congregation of the London Oratory. Consecrated in 1884 and completed with its dome and later decoration, it comprises a three‑bay nave, transepts and an apsed chancel beneath a dome over the crossing.

A monumental Neo‑Baroque composition faced in pale Portland stone: a three‑bay nave with Devon marble pilasters, broad transepts and an apsed chancel beneath a raised concrete dome with a lantern and cupola. The west façade has carved stone niches and a classical temple‑like canopy over a standing statue, set behind wrought‑iron railings and a dark brick gatepost bearing the Oratory House sign. Interiors feature exotics of marble, mosaic, plaster and carved woodwork from the early 20th century decorative campaign.
