Churchill War Rooms

The Churchill War Rooms are an underground wartime government command complex beneath the New Public Offices (Treasury) in Whitehall, London, now preserved as a museum. The site includes the Cabinet War Rooms — the Map Room, Cabinet Room and associated offices and dormitories — and an adjacent biographical Churchill Museum.

What Churchill War Rooms looked like in its prime.

A compact subterranean complex of low concrete ceilings, reinforced blast doors and narrow service corridors beneath the Treasury. The Map Room features a long central table with wall-sized pinned maps and notice boards; clustered wooden desks, rotary telephones and a manual switchboard occupy adjoining rooms. The Cabinet Room is a small meeting chamber with a central table and guarded door. Exposed pipes, ventilation grills, labelled doors and banks of filing cabinets give a functional, utilitarian visual texture throughout.
