Jardin de Versailles
The Gardens of Versailles are the formal French gardens immediately west of the Château de Versailles, laid out by André Le Nôtre and later modified by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. The ensemble comprises geometric parterres, bosquets (enclosed tree rooms), dozens of fountains and basins, the long Grand Canal, and associated garden buildings such as the Orangerie and the Trianons.

What Gardens of Versailles looked like in its prime.
A vast, strictly axial composition running west from the palace: wide gravel terraces and symmetrical parterres with clipped hedges and patterned flowerbeds, punctuated by formal basins and sculpture. Cascading steps and tiered fountains descend to the Latona and Apollo basins, beyond which the reflective Grand Canal stretches straight into the plain. Dense, man-made bosquets form clipped woodland rooms; stone balustrades, bronze statuary, and water jets animate the geometry under a low horizon.
