Hôtel de Ville, Paris
The Hôtel de Ville is the city hall of Paris, occupying a long symmetrical stone façade on the Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville in the 4th arrondissement. The present building reproduces a 16th-century Renaissance front with enlarged 19th-century wings and houses municipal offices and large ceremonial interiors.

A wide, pale limestone façade 143 metres long, symmetrically composed with a projecting central avant-corps topped by a clock and 50-metre bell tower, flanked by tall mansard roofs and corner pavilions. Rows of arched and rectangular windows, sculpted niches and hundreds of stone statues animate the elevation; ornate wrought-iron gates pierce the pavilions to inner courtyards. The roofline is punctuated by dormers, an open gallery with pedestals and flame vases, and a central French tricolour.
