Louvre Museum

The Louvre is France's national art museum housed in the historic Louvre Palace on the Right Bank of the Seine in Paris. Originally a medieval fortress and later a royal palace, it became a public museum in 1793 and now contains vast collections across multiple departments, including world-famous works such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

A vast stone palace enclosing a broad paved courtyard, dominated at the center by a large glass-and-metal pyramid and three smaller glass pyramids; the surrounding 17th–19th century limestone wings have long colonnaded arcades, ornate pediments, mansard roofs and sculpted façades, all warmly lit at night, with the Tuileries Gardens opening off one side and an equestrian statue near the courtyard edge.
