The Luxembourg Palace in Paris was built in the early 17th century for Marie de' Medici and later remodelled and enlarged in the 19th century. Since the Consulate it has served as the seat of France's upper legislative chamber and today houses the French Senate.

A long, symmetrical three-storey limestone palace with a rusticated ground floor, arched windows at street level and rectangular windows above, topped by steep slate mansard roofs and dormers. A central projecting pavilion with a carved stone pediment, clock and a small domed lantern with a flag crowns the corps de logis. The south front faces a broad formal lawn and gravel parterre, low balustraded terraces and an iron fence; flanking corner pavilions mirror one another.
