Musée d'Orsay

The Musée d'Orsay is an art museum in Paris housed in the former Gare d'Orsay railway station on the Left Bank of the Seine. The building contains extensive galleries under a long barrel-vaulted atrium and displays a large collection of 19th- and early-20th-century French art.

A long Beaux-Arts stone façade runs along the Seine, punctuated by a central pavilion with a large round clock, broad arched windows where train platforms once were, and a slate mansard roof with dormer pavilions. A broad stepped entrance descends to the river quay with mature trees and a riverside esplanade; a row of bronze allegorical sculptures stands in the square beside the building. The stonework is light beige with carved ornament and wrought-iron railings.
