Palast der Republik
The Palace of the Republic was a multifunctional public and government building in East Berlin that housed the Volkskammer (the GDR parliament) and numerous cultural facilities. Completed in 1976 on the site of the former Berlin Palace, it combined two large outer blocks and a central section with a continuous brown mirrored-glass curtain wall. The building was closed in 1990 and demolished between 2006 and 2008; parts of its interior fittings were later displayed or reused.
