Vorbunker

The Vorbunker was an underground reinforced-concrete air-raid shelter built beneath the reception hall added to the old Reich Chancellery in Berlin in 1936. It comprised a single main corridor with twelve rooms, service spaces and three entry points, and was connected by a stair to the lower Führerbunker.

Subterranean reinforced-concrete shelter beneath the Reich Chancellery reception hall, covered by a flat 1.6 m-thick concrete roof and thick poured-concrete walls. A single straight corridor punctuated by a dozen plain rectangular doorways leads past small utilitarian chambers with concrete floors and exposed construction seams. Heavy steel bulkhead door and a right-angled stair lead down to the lower bunker. Service rooms include a small kitchen with a freestanding refrigerator and an adjacent wine store lined with bottles; simple wooden bunk frames in sleeping rooms.
