Albertis Castle
D'Albertis Castle is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival villa-castle on Monte Galletto in Genoa, built for sea captain Enrico Alberto d'Albertis and now housing the Museum of World Cultures. The building combines a red-brick, crenellated silhouette with older stone foundations and towers, and overlooks the city and the Ligurian Sea.

Compact, crenellated complex of red brick and pale stone: a tall square red-brick tower with crenellated crown and paired lancet windows dominates the skyline, balanced by a cylindrical stone tower with a red-brick battlemented top to the right. The main block shows pointed Gothic arched windows and a covered loggia with a sloped tiled roof. A long stone retaining wall and sloping ramp cut across a wooded hill, the castle sitting above the dense city and facing the sea; complete and intact at its prime.

D'Albertis Castle was erected between 1886 and 1892 on Monte Galletto for the sea captain Enrico Alberto d'Albertis, who designed it himself as an architectural collage in Gothic Revival style — inspired by the palaces of Florence and the castles of the Aosta Valley — under the supervision of the Gothic Revivalist Alfredo D'Andrade. The site was a 13th-century fortified area, reinforced in the 16th century, and d'Albertis incorporated and preserved the foundations of the bastion and one of its turrets.
Inaugurated for the celebrations of 400 years since Columbus's discovery of America, it was the first villa-castle built in Genoa, dominating the city from its hill with a view of the Ligurian Sea. On d'Albertis's death in 1932 the castle was donated to the city of Genoa, and since 2004 it has housed the Museo delle Culture del Mondo, the Museum of World Cultures.
