Old Slains Castle
Slains Castle (Old Slains) is a ruined coastal castle on a headland near Collieston in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Originally constructed in the 13th century with the surviving tower-house largely of 15th-century form, it was partly demolished in 1594 and today survives as tall ruined wall sections on the cliff edge.

As it stood in 1500
The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a grassy sea cliff, the castle in its prime was dominated by a tall five-storey oblong stone keep of grey local masonry with narrow, vertical slit windows and simple rectangular form. A substantial curtain wall protected the landward side, linking to the keep and enclosing a compact courtyard; the walls were coursed stone with limited openings. From the seaward side the fortress presented sheer stone faces above the rocky shoreline, rooflines low and functional, all intact and continuous.
