A symmetrical three‑storey central block of pale ashlar stone with a wide neoclassical portico of six columns and a triangular pediment, surmounted by a tall green copper dome with round oculi and a small lantern. Low red‑brown brick side ranges are set back, leaving formal lawns, rose beds and mature plane trees in front. Two large grey naval gun barrels on a low plinth sit on the central lawn before the broad stone steps and entrance doors.
