What Kensington Gardens looked like in its prime.

A tall Gothic polychrome canopy of richly modelled iron and stone rises from a stepped stone podium, its pinnacles and spire covered with gold leaf. Beneath the canopy sits a seated, gilded bronze figure on a high plinth; white marble bas-relief panels run around the podium. Polished dark columns support the archways and mosaic panels; the memorial is set on broad stone steps and terraces, framed by open lawns and rows of mature deciduous trees.
