National Railway Museum

The National Railway Museum in York is a museum housing Britain's national collection of historically significant railway vehicles and related objects, displayed across former railway buildings and modern exhibition spaces. The site occupies the old York North locomotive depot and the Grade II listed Station Hall and includes large locomotives, royal saloons, a Shinkansen vehicle and other large industrial exhibits.

What National Railway Museum looked like in its prime.

A long interior exhibition shed formed from a Victorian goods station with tall iron trusses and a vaulted roof, brick side walls and a wide concrete floor laid with museum tracks. Large steam locomotives and carriages sit on parallel rails, their polished black and coloured liveries, brass fittings and oversized wheels filling the scale of the hall. Visitor barriers and low fences run along the track edges; display plinths, signage and a new Central Hall entrance link the separate parts of the museum.
