Royal Court Theatre

The Royal Court Theatre is a historic non-commercial theatre on Sloane Square in London. The current red-brick, Italianate building opened in 1888 and has housed prominent productions and companies throughout its life, becoming the home of the English Stage Company in 1956.

What Royal Court Theatre looked like in its prime.

A narrow, three-storey theatre frontage of fine red and moulded brick with stone dressings in a free Italianate manner. A central triangular pediment tops three tall, arched first-floor windows; small round oculi sit toward the upper corners. The ground floor has a stone-faced entrance with a tripartite arched doorway reached by shallow steps and a compact urban pavement to the street. Stringcourses, moulded brick surrounds and a low balustraded parapet complete the vertical, tightly packed town-house scale.
