Westminster Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood, commonly called Westminster Cathedral, is the principal Roman Catholic church in England and Wales and the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster. Built in a neo-Byzantine style of red brick with white stone banding, it combines a spacious nave, aisles and multiple chapels with a tall campanile and richly decorated sanctuary structures.

A broad west façade of hand-moulded red brick banded with horizontal white stone, set on a continuous granite base; a very tall square campanile rises at the left, with narrow arched bell openings near its top. Central deeply recessed semicircular portal with multiple archivolts, marble columns and a mosaic tympanum; twin stairway turrets and domed pavilion towers punctuate the roofline. Domical vaults and shallow pendentive domes sit behind the façade; the overall palette is red brick, white stone, pale marble and lead-grey domes.
