The Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest is a 19th-century Moorish Revival synagogue and the largest in Europe. Completed in 1859, the complex includes the main Great Synagogue building with twin towers, attached Jewish Museum and a courtyard; it remains an active place of worship and cultural venue. The building was heavily restored in the 1990s and is preserved in largely intact form today.

What Dohány Street Synagogue looked like in its prime.

A long, rectangular masonry block faced in alternating pale yellow and red brick bands, dominated by twin octagonal towers capped with dark onion domes bearing a continuous gold decorative band. A large carved stone cornice with oriental-style crenellations runs under the towers; a pierced rose window sits over a triple-door entrance reached by a short flight of steps. Inside the basilica-like plan has three aisles, two tiers of galleries, cast-iron nave supports and a large pipe organ above the western entrance.
