Peter and Paul Cathedral
The Peter and Paul Cathedral is the principal church inside the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, built as the city's first stone church and designed by Domenico Trezzini. Its integrated bell tower with a gold-painted spire and angel is the dominant feature; the cathedral also contains the imperial burial vaults and a tall iconostasis over the sanctuary.

The entrance has a small classical portico with white columns; behind the tower a round drum with a gilded cupola rises. The building sits within the low-walled Peter and Paul Fortress on Hare Island beside the Neva.
