Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Santiago de Compostela

The Santiago de Compostela Archcathedral Basilica is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain and the traditional destination of the medieval Way of St James pilgrimage. Built from the late 11th century in a Romanesque plan, it contains later Gothic and extensive Baroque additions and encloses the reputed tomb of the apostle Saint James the Great.

What Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela looked like in its prime.

Massive granite Baroque main façade with two tall bell towers flanking a central stacked composition of niches, statues and large arched windows; the surface is carved with pilasters, balustrades, urns and saints, and finished by ornate spires and crosses. A wide diamond-shaped Renaissance staircase and wrought-iron entrance gate lead up to three grand portals; the stone tonal range is pale warm-grey, with glazed windowpanes set into deep arched openings.
