Palma Cathedral

Catedral de Santa María de Palma de Mallorca

The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma (La Seu) is a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral in Palma, Mallorca, built on the seafront between the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the Episcopal Palace. It has three parallel naves, a very tall central nave, extensive flying buttresses and pinnacles, and a large east rose window nearly the full width of the central nave. Construction began after 1229 and continued into the 17th century.

What Palma Cathedral looked like in its prime.

A massive, vertical Gothic mass of warm golden-brown sandstone rising directly from a low stone city wall on the seafront; three stacked ranks of chapels, side naves and the towering central nave are articulated by broad flying buttresses and repeated pinnacles. A vast circular rose window punctuates the upper east wall, the west façade presents a neo‑Gothic gable and pointed main portal, and a tall bell tower anchors one end — overall an austere, highly vertical silhouette.
