Bewcastle Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Bewcastle, Cumbria, built within the earthworks of a Roman fort near the Scottish border. The site originated around 1092, was rebuilt in the later Middle Ages, and fell into ruin by the 17th century, with much stone later robbed for local buildings.

At its prime the castle read as a compact, rectangular stronghold of thick coursed rubble and squared ashlar, walls rising to crenellated parapets and continuous curtain faces without modern breaks. A prominent gatehouse gave controlled access; timber-roofed domestic ranges enclosed a central grassy courtyard. The stone palette was pale grey‑buff local sandstone, and the whole lay within the broad scarp and ditch of the earlier Roman fort, the ditch reused as a surrounding dry moat.

Bewcastle Castle stands within the earthworks of a Roman fort in the parish of Bewcastle, Cumbria, a few miles from the Scottish border; the castle originated around 1092 and was rebuilt in the later Middle Ages. Decayed by the early 15th century, it was granted by Edward IV to his brother the Duke of Gloucester, who later became King Richard III.
From the late 15th century the Musgrave family held the castle, and Sir William Musgrave carried out repairs in the 1540s. It fell into ruin by the 17th century, and much of its stone was later robbed for local buildings.
