Castle MacEwen
Castle MacEwen is the earthwork and stone remains of a medieval promontory fort and later homestead on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Archaeological excavation revealed successive phases from a palisaded enclosure to a fortified homestead associated with Clan MacEwen and later Campbells. The site survives only as low ramparts, foundations and archaeological features on a coastal promontory.

Sited on a low rocky promontory beside Loch Fyne, the fort reads as concentric ramparts and stone-faced banks rather than tall masonry towers. Curtain ramparts are formed from earth with large rectangular facing stones and areas of vitrified, glassy rock where walls were burnt. The interior contains traces of rectangular building foundations and cobbled floors; a small round house abuts the main gateway. Narrow, stone-lined passages run down the north and south sides to the sea.

Excavation revealed successive phases of occupation, from a palisaded enclosure to a fortified homestead, and the site survives today only as low ramparts, foundations and archaeological features.
The site is linked to Clan MacEwen, long associated with the Loch Fyne country, and the castle was held by the Clan Ewen of Otter. When Swene died in 1493, the lands — castle included — passed to a branch of Clan Campbell.
