Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos
The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos is a medieval alcázar in the historic centre of Córdoba, built on earlier Roman and Islamic foundations and ordered rebuilt by Alfonso XI in 1328. The ensemble is a fortified square with four principal towers around formal terraced gardens, pools and courtyards and served as a primary royal residence during the late 15th century.

The shape it held in its prime.
A compact, almost-square stone fortress of warm sandy-coloured ashlar with crenellated curtain walls and four prominent corner towers: an octagonal keep (Tower of Homage), a square Tower of the Lions with lion gargoyles, a circular Tower of the Inquisition, and the reconstructed Tower of the Dove. Red-tiled roofs and a small bell-tower rise behind the walls. Terraced formal gardens descend from the castle with broad stone steps, long rectangular reflecting pools, fountains, orange and cypress trees, hedges and arched Mudejar verandas opening onto inner courtyards.
