Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace is a large Victorian entertainment and exhibition palace on a ridge in north London, built in a long linear plan with a central glass-roofed hall, domed end pavilions and a long stone façade. The complex historically housed concert and exhibition halls, a large Victorian theatre with stage machinery, and later BBC television studios and a transmission mast in its eastern wing.

A long, symmetrical Victorian palace of ashlar and dressed stone with a continuous two-storey façade, arched windows and a central rose-windowed entrance; the centre is dominated by a vast pitched glass-and-iron roof over the Great Hall, flanked by domed glass pavilions and lower slate roofs. A tall lattice steel transmitter mast rises beside the eastern dome. Broad stone steps and a balustraded terrace front the building, with parkland paths and lawns falling away in the foreground.
