Place Vendôme

Place Vendôme is a formal royal square in Paris bounded by continuous classical façades by Jules Hardouin‑Mansart. Its centre is dominated by the tall Vendôme Column with a bronze spiral frieze and a statue on top. The square is lined with five‑to‑six‑storey stone buildings with mansard roofs and hosts official hôtels particuliers and luxury houses along its sides.

A regular rectangular plaza enclosed by uniform pale limestone façades in a classical rhythm: rusticated ground floors with shopfronts, tall windows linked by pilasters, and pedimented central pavilions breaking the long sides. Slate mansard roofs with dormer windows sit above cornices. The open paved surface centres on a tall bronze column with a spiralling bas‑relief and a statue atop; streetlamps and carriage tracks punctuate the broad, uncluttered forecourt.
