What Stadio Artemio Franchi looked like in its prime.

A low, bowl-shaped reinforced-concrete stadium with a prominent 70 m vertical tower rising beside the stands; broad, exposed concrete surfaces and spiral ramps at the tower's base; a cantilevered covered main grandstand on one side and open concrete tiers elsewhere; a grass playing field with a surrounding running track in the original layout; tall floodlight masts punctuate the rim, and distant Tuscan hills form the skyline.
