As it stood in 1450
The shape it held in its prime.
A long stretch of crenellated curtain wall and a substantial gatehouse crown an earthen embankment on a grassy promontory surrounded by sea on three sides. A tall, square stone tower and lower turrets rise from the stonework of the priory church; nave and choir run longitudinally with attached chapels. Masonry is pale-brown to grey sandstone ashlar and rubble, and at its prime the roofs over nave, choir and chapels would be continuous and intact.
