Killiney Castle
Killiney Castle (also called Mount Malpas, Rocksborough or Loftus Hill) is an 18th-century Georgian manor house near Killiney, County Dublin, later given faux-medieval castellations and minor towers. Built c.1740 and altered in the 19th century, it survives as a country house now used as the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. The estate historically included stone boundary walls, planted demesne and a small obelisk on Killiney Hill.

A two-storey Georgian block set over a basement with a symmetrical five-bay façade, low-pitched slate roof and a continuous crenellated parapet added in the 19th century. Short, square castellated corner towers and a later half‑octagonal tower punctuate the corners; a central projecting Gothic porch with a cut‑stone arched doorway and steps accesses the entrance. Regular sash windows are set in a smooth, light-coloured rendered façade. The house stands within a walled demesne of lawns, trees and a carriage drive with coastal views.

Killiney Castle — known variously as Mount Malpas, Rocksborough and Loftus Hill — is an 18th-century manor house near Killiney in County Dublin, built around 1740. An advertisement in Falkiner's Dublin Journal of 1752, offering 'Roxborough, formerly called Mount Malpas', with 150 acres enclosed by a stone wall and a well-furnished house, suggests Malpas may have rented the castle in its early years.
The house's faux-medieval castellations and minor towers, added in the 19th century, drew mockery: the Dublin Penny Journal of 1834 derided 'a burlesque upon castellation... a Babel building, where all art is confounded, taste abused'. Subsequently acquired by the Fitzpatrick family, the castle was converted into a hotel and has been open since 1971 as the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel.
