Merlinpark Castle
Merlinpark Castle (Merlin Castle, Doughiske Castle) is a 15th–16th century Irish tower house and national monument located east-northeast of Galway city. The single tall rectangular stone tower was occupied into the mid-19th century and retains architectural features typical of a tower house, including narrow slit windows and a second-floor carving (a sheela na gig) recorded in the fabric.

A tall, rectangular single tower of rough grey limestone rises directly from a low grassy plain; the wall face shows a vertical sequence of narrow slit windows and a larger irregular opening on the upper wall where masonry has collapsed. The parapet line is truncated with remnants of corbels and ruined merlons. Stone blocks show lichen and pockets of climbing vegetation. The second floor is recorded as containing a sheela na gig carving set into the wall.

Merlinpark Castle — Merlin Castle, or Doughiske — is a tower house east-north-east of Galway city, now a national monument close to the grounds of Merlin Park University Hospital. The area may have held an earlier fortification associated with Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair, the 12th-century King of Connacht and High King of Ireland, but the tower itself dates from the 15th or 16th century.
The Lynch family (Ó Loingsigh) owned the castle in the 16th century, and the single tall rectangular tower remained occupied into the mid-19th century. Its fabric keeps the marks of a classic tower house — narrow slit windows and, on the second floor, a carved sheela na gig recorded in the stonework.
