Glenbuchat Castle
Glenbuchat Castle is a late 16th-century Z-plan Scottish tower house built in 1590 for John Gordon of Cairnbarrow. It stands on a raised site above the River Don near Kildrummy in Aberdeenshire and is a scheduled monument in state care. The ruin is roofless today but the walls and towers remain largely intact.

Compact Z-plan tower house: a rectangular rubble-stone block with two projecting angle towers (one corbelled round stair-turret) and ashlar quoins of slightly pink sandstone. Walls of irregular grey-brown fieldstone with small, vertically arranged rectangular windows and gunloops. Parapets and pitched roofs would cap the towers and main block. Sited on a grassy lawn above the River Don with low enclosing walls and a small wooden gate at the approach; generally complete and roofed at its prime.

Glenbuchat Castle is a Z-plan tower house built in 1590 for John Gordon of Cairnbarrow to mark his wedding, on a raised site above the River Don near Kildrummy in Aberdeenshire. Roofless today, it is otherwise in fairly good repair, its walls and towers largely intact, and is a scheduled monument in state care.
The Gordons sold the castle in 1738, and it remained in private hands until the 20th century. James William Barclay bought it in 1901, and his grandson, Colonel James Barclay Milne, placed it in state care in 1946.
