Hutton Castle
Hutton Castle is a historic country house-style castle in the Scottish Borders overlooking the Whiteadder Water, originally built in the 16th century and later altered and expanded. It was owned and lived in by Sir William Burrell in the 20th century and was restored as a private dwelling in the late 1990s; it is a category B listed building.

Perched on a wooded ridge above the valley, the castle presents a multi-storey rectangular stone main block of grey-brown masonry with several chimneys and slate roofs. A lower gabled wing adjoins one side and a short cylindrical, crenellated tower rises near the centre of the composition. Windows are regularly spaced vertical openings; the building sits above treed slopes with no visible outer curtain wall, fully roofed and occupied at its prime.

Hutton Castle stands in the Scottish Borders overlooking the Whiteadder Water, 2.5 kilometres southeast of Chirnside and 11 kilometres west of Berwick-on-Tweed. Known over the years as Hatton Hall and Hutton Hall, it was attacked in September 1544, during the war of the Rough Wooing, by Harry Eure, son of Lord Eure.
It was the seat of the Johnstons of Hilton from about 1620 until the early 19th century, and from 1876 was owned by Dudley Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth. In the 20th century the castle was owned and lived in by Sir William Burrell. Restored as a private dwelling in the late 1990s, it is a category B listed building.
